KENNEY FIRES JOHNSON, YET CONTINUES TO PROTECT NIXON
EDMONTON – As reported by CBC today, the UCP has fired their candidate in Lac Ste. Anne-Parkland for firing an employee following a domestic dispute[1], however UCP MLA Jason Nixon continues to be a senior member of Jason Kenney’s caucus.
It came to light late last year that Nixon fired a woman after she made a complaint about sexual harassment[2]. The British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal ruled against Nixon.
“If Mr. Kenney saw fit to fire his candidate in this case, surely he can’t continue to defend Mr. Nixon,” said Danielle Larivee, MLA for Lesser Slave Lake. “It’s not too late for Mr. Kenney to do the right thing and remove Mr. Nixon as well.”
“This is yet another demonstration that Jason Kenney doesn’t care about women’s rights, or the rights of workers,” said Larivee. “Nixon continuing to sit the legislature is proof that Jason Kenney doesn’t care about everyday Albertans.”
