UCP MLA introduces Constituency Association VP of Policy, highlights his involvement in climate change denial organization
EDMONTON – At the Legislature on Monday, UCP MLA Rick Strankman introduced a constituent, Josh Andrus. He didn’t mention he’s also his party constituency association VP of Policy. He stated Andrus is involved with “Grassroots Alberta,” but failed to note that the group’s primary purpose is dispelling the notion of man-made climate change.
“Grassroots Alberta” spreads propaganda against the realities of climate change. On the group’s website , they sell copies of the film “Climate Hustle”, which was partially funded by UCP Finance critic Drew Barnes last year. They’ve posted multiple videos of the “Friends of Science,” another climate change denying group. Their homepage states “climate science is not settled.”
Strankman has been questioned before on his beliefs about climate change. He told the Edmonton Journal climate change has occurred for “eons.” As the Journal’s Graham Thomson wrote, “This is the kind of response climate-change denying politicians give when they want to diminish the impact of man-made climate change.”
The UCP rejects they are climate change deniers, but the facts show something else entirely.
