RED DEER – The United Conservative Party touts its 'historic' founding convention in Red Deer, and “historic” seems to be the right word, with old, out of touch ideas at the forefront.
On Saturday afternoon, Former Wildrose Leader Heather Forsyth and former federal Conservative leader Rona Ambrose took to the stage to talk about women in politics. In her speech, Forsyth referred to feminism as the "f-word" and barriers facing women as "socialist crap." [1]
This founding convention is a battle for the heart of the new party, where moderates are pitted against extremists. Extremists appear to not only be in attendance, but in fact leading the show itself.
If Kenney meant to recruit a "diverse" group of candidates including LGBTQ community members and women, he's not off to a great start.[2]
