Reality Check: Conservatives Vote for $700M in Tax Giveaways for Millionaires
EDMONTON – Today UCP members again affirm just whose side their party is on.
A majority of Party delegates and MLAs voted in favour of a motion to “restore the provincial personal tax rate to a flat rate”. This means everyday working families will pay more for the services that they rely on while those at the very top, the richest Albertans and wealthiest corporations, all will get a $700M tax giveaway.
For too long, the richest Albertans and wealthiest corporations weren’t asked to pay their fair share while, every year, ordinary families were asked to do more with less. That wasn’t right then and that isn’t right now – that’s why Rachel Notley and Alberta’s New Democrats took action.
Now the conservatives want to return our province back to the same sense of entitlement and pay-to-play backroom politics of yesterday, but with even bigger cuts to the front line services that everyday families rely on. It’s clear that the conservatives are out of touch with the priorities of everyday Albertans and are only focused on making things easier for their rich friends and insiders.
