Reality Check: UCP votes to restrict access to abortion
EDMONTON – Just days after UCP MLAs walked out of the legislature to avoid talking about women safely accessing reproductive healthcare, UCP delegates at this weekend’s AGM voted to restrict access to abortion.
Today, 76% of UCP members passed a motion that would “ensure that all minor children are protected from harm by requiring the consent of a parent or legal guardian” before accessing healthcare services.
Anti-choice group, the Wilberforce Project, told UCP delegates in their voting guide that, “this proposal would result in parental notification being required for an abortion” and encouraged all members to adopt the motion.
While the UCP continues to attack women’s access to healthcare and tell women they know what’s best for them – Rachel Notley’s New Democrats will continue to have the backs of Alberta women and continue to stand on their side, in the house, and every single day.
