Jane Stroud nominated as NDP candidate in Fort McMurray-Conklin
Fort McMurray – Jane Stroud, a three-term city councillor and life-long advocate for the Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo region, was nominated as the NDP’s candidate in the upcoming Fort McMurray-Conklin by-election.
“Jane has long been a strong voice for the people of Fort McMurray-Conklin, and has shown her dedication to serving this community time and time again,” said NDP Leader Rachel Notley. “I am thrilled that she’s decided to put her name forward to represent Fort McMurray-Conklin.”
“I’m running because I want to be Fort McMurray-Conklin’s voice in Edmonton,” said Stroud. “I want to make sure we have the teachers, nurses and roads our communities need.”
Stroud said she chose to join the NDP when she saw how Premier Notley and the NDP caucus were on the side of everyday Albertans, standing up to calls for deep cuts to vital public services and cleaning up waste and corruption.
“Crumbling infrastructure, neglected seniors, overcrowded classrooms and cuts to vital health care services do not move our community forward,” said Stroud. “I truly believe that Rachel is fighting for you, me and all Albertans. She’s on our side, so I want to be on hers.”
The by-election will be held to fill the seat left vacant by former Leader of the Opposition, Brian Jean.
