UCP LAYS OUT THE RED CARPET FOR SOCIAL CONSERVATIVES

EDMONTON – In the UCP’s latest members-only email blast, they are bragging about one of their new members who didn’t think the federal Conservatives were conservative enough.

The UCP’s latest “star,” Frans VandeStroet, ran for the Christian Heritage Party in order to oppose same-sex marriage, abortion and other issues. When VandeStroet ran against Jason Kenney’s federal party, he told The Taber Times the federal Conservatives “consistently keep the abortion subject off the agenda. … Same story for the way Mr. Harper has dealt with the definition of marriage and now euthanasia. Unfortunately, the Conservatives are not conservative anymore.”[1]

And now, looking at the candidates Kenney is endorsing, his support for John Carpay, their policies to out the students who join GSAs, and their refusal to vote on bills about protecting a woman’s right to choose without harassment, it seems that Mr. VandStroet has found a home in the UCP.

Kenney keeps trying to deny that he believes in these hateful views. If that’s true, why is it no one from John Carpay to Frans VandeStroet – and even the people who write his party’s emails – seem to believe him?
